All the different ways to say see

Suggested Difficulty (Elementary etc): Elementary or Intermediate
Video or Audio: Audio would probably be fine
Lesson Idea: Hi @Constance_Fang and Team,

As I was learning vocabulary on Memrise I get confused by the different ways to say see or look

Hi Luke,

Thank you for your suggestion. We’ll take those topics in consideration for our upcoming lessons.

Cheers!

Hi Lukeaz,
I am an advanced learner, maybe I can help you with that. “看到,看见”, they are similar meaning for look, for example, 我看见/看到一只小鸟。 but for some abstract things, only can use '看到”, for example, 这本书我看到20页(I read 20 pages of this book).
"看出“ means can tell something, for example, 我能看出你不喜欢我。

Hello,
I wonder if this 看出 has the same meaning with 看得出來 in the examples provided in the videos.
Thanks guys for your reply.

Hi there,

Yes, they have the same meaning, but the usages are different. Let’s take a look at some examples:

  • 我看出他的计画后,就不参加了。
Eng: After I found his plan, I decide not to join.
✪ The emphasis is on the plan.
Eng: I can tell what’s he’s planning, so I decide not to join.
✪ The emphasis is on that “you can tell/find out”.

Eng: Did you find anything different?
✪ The emphasis is on “anything”
Eng: Can you tell the difference?
✪ The emphasis is on “can you tell”

So, all in all 看出 is used to emphasize the following object; while 看得出來 is used to emphasized that the subject is able to tell or find out something. If you still have any questions, feel free to leave them down here. We’ll reply to you as soon as possible.
