确实 和 实在 . Can 实在 replace 确实, and how do we use 实在?

Hi @YuQinCai, @Constance_Fang @Fiona and the ChinesePod team, my question is this: 确实 and 实在 . Can
实在 replace 确实, and how do we use 实在? 确实漂亮 可以说实在漂亮吗。 实在不行 可以说确实不行吗

实在 and 确实 mean more different when used as adjectives but not too much in adverb usage as “indeed”. However, knowing the meanings of their adjective usages would help on differentiate their tiny differences in adverb usages

Look at these examples in adjectives:

  1. 他做事很实在。 He‘s very honest when he works.
  2. 他做事很确实。 He’s very detail-oriented when he works.

Therefore, in your sentences, if you say 她实在很漂亮, you’re saying you honestly think this is true.
If it’s 她确实很漂亮, you’re saying objectively that she is a pretty person.

行不行 is more of a fact than an opinion so 实在不行 and 确实不行 are the same.

Hope this is helpful for you!

确实 cannot necessarily be replaced with 实在. 确实 means “really” but 实在 means “very”
确实 and 的确是 are interchangeable though
她确实很漂亮 correct
她的确很漂亮 correct
她实在很漂亮 grammatically correct but never used this way
他的艺术细胞确实不行 correct
他的艺术细胞实在不行 grammatically correct but never used this way

实在 and 的确 are interchangeable in certain situations, so the following sentences are actually correct.
她实在漂亮
他的艺术细胞实在不行
