Any recommendations for good Mandarin shows on Netflix to help with learning? Hopefully not just romance, although I did learn 闭嘴 from Meteor Garden 
The Legend of Bruce Lee is good. Simple plot lines and dialog with subtitles. Good production quality.
I hear good things about Ancient Love Song, but I haven’t watched it. I watched some of the good old Taiwanese Dramas like Meteor Garden before Netflix even existed, but those are with traditional characters. Nevertheless, I can recommend 海豚湾恋人 and especially 战神 for those that want to see some pre Netflix shows, you can find that on Youtube.

For Taiwanese 國語/台語, I cannot recommend 花甲男孩轉大人 or “A Boy Named Flora A” enough! Its a slice of life show about a young Taiwanese man living in the city who gets called back to his ancestral home when his grandmother falls ill. Prepare a box of tissues.
