Hello !
Do you know what is the difference between 疼 and 痛 ? I think there is one but I can’t remember what it is.
Hi there,
Speaking of “hurt”, there’s no difference between 疼 and 痛. But, the usages of these are quite different. The most obvious difference happens to 心 [xīn] “heart”:
心疼:
-
to love dearly
他心疼孩子,所以都没打过。
[Tā xīnténg háizi, suǒyǐ dōu méi dǎguò.]
He dotes on his kids so he never punishes them. -
to feel bad
电视坏了,奶奶很心疼。
[Diànshì huàile, nǎinai hěn xīnténg.]
The television is dead. Grandma feels bad about it.
心痛:
- to feel distressed about sth
你说的话让我真的很心痛
[Nǐ shuō dehuà ràng wǒ zhēn de hěn xīntòng]
Your words really broke my heart.
Although there’re differences in usage (e.g. collocation), I would suggest you remember the context instead of the words. It would be more efficient.
