I have a query about how and when to use double verbs when speaking about something you are doing. For example 我 休息休息 or 上上网，有的时候跟爸爸在网上聊聊天人。
What’s the purpose of the double xiuxi, shang or liao? Is it to imply that it’s only for a short while? And am I right in thinking that the sentence still makes sense without the doubling up! Are there any rules about when to double up? And are there situations when this must be avoided?
In context, this is a lesson about how you spend your free time. Sure it’s rather obvious but it’s confusing me!!!
