Can you recommend a family friendly Mandarin TV series? My husband and I are fluent but kids are learning in Primary school. Would be great for us to watch a TV series together. We tried Monkey King but prefer something a bit more modern. Ideally suitable for all ages. Also any good family movies you can recommend? We are in Australia so will have to source it online? Great question as this is an issue my family has too. Generally I find the Chinese programs to be somewhat safe compared to US TV which is most of the time somewhat risky to watch with the kids without previewing.
I have two suggestions for you. The first one is great family viewing since it’s unpredictable and has children and adults and real life.

With both choices, the kids might not get TONS of Chinese and what they are saying however, even just a little bit is good plus the shows are visually appealing. The food one (second one) will make them look at Chinese food differently perhaps. Plus the second one is great for adults.

This is a bit specific to learners with young kids, but my 5-year-old loves watching momo. It’s produced in Taiwan and has lots of singing, dancing, and animations that are useful for learning Chinese. It also has some content for older kids, like learning manners, being responsible, caring for pets, etc.
We actually watch it on our smart TV through Amazon Prime. It’s a paid channel, but is only a couple of dollars each month in the US.

I second the 巧虎 recommendation! My 3 year old learns all about washing hands, brushing teeth, being polite, etc. They also learn songs and poetry. 巧虎 and the 慈濟kids show are all she ever watches.
Same as my 4 year old cousin! She’s so in love with the show. She listens to 巧虎 more than she listens to her mom haha
