How to tell someone you don't understand

Hi ChinesePod team, my question is this:

I’m curious how you would tell a native speaker that you didn’t understand what they were saying or to explain something differently. My point is that I understand some Chinese but that I need some clarity on what they were saying, not that I didn’t understand their Chinese. Does that make sense?

Hi Alanna,

You could say…

• 你的意思是…吗？
  [Nǐ de yìsi shì… ma?]
  Do you mean…?

• 你说的…是什么意思？
  [Nǐ shuō de… shì shénme yìsi?]
  What do you mean by…?
