Need someone help me with "免得“ and " 以免"

I am confused with “免得“ and " 以免”, could you please help me with that, I need some example sentences, not just explaination, thank you.

Hi there,

免得 and 以免 both mean “so as not to” or “so as to avoid”. For example,

  • 带把伞，免得 / 以免下雨。
    [Dài bǎ sǎn, miǎndé/ yǐmiǎn xià yǔ.]
    Bring an umbrella, in case it rains.

  • 吃碗饭吧，免得 / 以免等一下饿肚子。
    [Chī wǎn fàn ba, miǎndé/ yǐmiǎn děng yīxià è dùzi.]
    Eat something, in case you get hungry later.

Hi Betty, so basically it won’t be wrong if I use 免得 or 以免 (they are interchangeable) If I understand it correctly?
